Vindigo Chosen by Microsoft for Strategic Alliance

Invited to Join Microsoft's Mobility Advisory Council

NEW YORK, Apr. 29, 2002 - Vindigo, the leading developer of personal navigation applications for mobile devices, today announced that it has been invited to participate in the Microsoft Mobility Partner Advisory Council.

Microsoft formed the council in an effort to bring the most innovative and successful solutions to market with like-minded companies investing heavily in mobility. To that end, Vindigo and Microsoft will work together to promote Vindigo 2.0, the company's award-winning location based service, to the rapidly growing installed base of Windows Powered Pocket PC users. Vindigo will also work with Microsoft to optimize its service for wireless Pocket PC devices and Microsoft Windows Powered Smartphones.

Vindigo 2.0 turns the Pocket PC into a personal navigator. Users can tell Vindigo 2.0 where they are and what they are looking for, and Vindigo 2.0 will tell them the best and closest places to eat, shop and play. Vindigo 2.0 knows:

  • Every great restaurant, bar and club in the city, complete with ratings and reviews from brand name content providers
  • The nearest places to buy everything from wine to pet supplies
  • What's going on at every major museum
  • Where to find live jazz, rock, or even a cappella singing every night of the week
  • How to get to any destination, with full-color maps, walking directions, and public transit information
  • ATMs, parking lots, and gas stations nearby

Users can sort listings by distance, as well as by name, category, or rating. An annual subscription to Vindigo 2.0 includes unlimited access to 23 major U.S. cities and London, with more on the way, as well as updated content every time the user syncs his or her Pocket PC.

"Vindigo is thrilled to embark on this strategic relationship with Microsoft," said Jason Devitt, chief executive officer of Vindigo. "By working together, we will be able to introduce Pocket PC users to the benefits of the Vindigo 2.0 service."

"Microsoft looks to industry partners to extend the platform's offerings to meet customers' specific needs," said Mary Rose Becker, group marketing manager for Mobility at Microsoft Corp. "Vindigo and its personal navigation service is a terrific example of such offerings. We're excited that Vindigo is leveraging the platform to better serve its customers."
