Vindigo Wins
BREW™ Award for "Best Use of BREW" at QUALCOMM's Second Annual Developers
Conference
Vindigo Provides Phone-Based
Maps and Walking/Driving Directions, Enables Users with BREW-Enabled
Handsets to Find the Best Places to Eat, Shop and Play in Major
Cities
NEW YORK, June 05, 2002 - Vindigo, the leading
developer of personal navigation applications for mobile devices,
today announced that it has been selected by QUALCOMM as the winner
of the "Best Use of BREW" award. Vindigo for BREW, currently offered
by Verizon Wireless, has the same look and feel as the company's
popular PDA-based application while taking advantage of wireless
connectivity for real-time information and unlimited access to Vindigo
content. It was developed for QUALCOMM'S Binary Runtime Environment
for Wireless™ (BREW) platform.
Verizon Wireless, the only carrier in North America to offer BREW-enabled
handsets to consumers, chose Vindigo as its flagship location-based
service.
Vindigo for BREW has all the core features that have made Vindigo
successful on other platforms: comprehensive local information on
where to eat, shop and play in over 25 major metropolitan areas,
complete with full-color maps, ratings and reviews from brand-name
content providers. And with the BREW platform, Vindigo is for the
first time able to offer driving directions to any Vindigo listing.
"We are delighted to accept this award and continue to be enthusiastic
supporters of the BREW platform," said Jason Devitt, chief executive
officer of Vindigo. "Today, over 500,000 consumers rely on Vindigo
on their Palm Powered or Pocket PC handheld computer to find what
they need, wherever they are, and the BREW platform finally allows
us to deliver a similar user experience to wireless phones."
"Vindigo has a true understanding of the BREW platform's extensive
capabilities," said Jan Lezny, senior director of developer and
OEM relations, QUALCOMM Internet Services. "With this location-based
service, Vindigo has clearly demonstrated what the BREW platform
can help developers bring to wireless carriers and ultimately to
consumers."
