The Star Tribune Company and Vindigo Team to Provide Twin Cities Dining and Entertainment Information on Handheld Computers

MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL - Feb. 6, 2001 - The Star Tribune Company and Vindigo, the leading developer of personal navigation applications for handheld devices, today launched a mobile dining, entertainment and shopping resource for the Twin Cities. Vindigo is currently available for use on all Palm Powered™ handheld devices. It is available today, free-of-charge, from the Star Tribune Web site at www.startribune.com/news2go or from the Vindigo Web site at www.vindigo.com.

The service features startribune.com reviews on hundreds of restaurants in Minneapolis-St. Paul, sorted by type of cuisine, neighborhood and price range. Vindigo also includes, movie listings, shopping destinations, bars and clubs, plus walking directions to every listing. In addition, consumers can use their handhelds to write short restaurant reviews, which will be sent to the startribune.com when they sync their handheld devices with their personal computers.

"Star Tribune is pleased to be working with Vindigo to offer this service to handheld users," said Robert Schafer, director of business development for startribune.com. "This is an essential part of our strategy as an information company: To deliver valuable information to our customers wherever they are, in whatever form our customers choose."

"The Star Tribune is the leading source of information for the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. We are now enabling the Star Tribune to bring its trusted restaurant reviews and content to people via their handheld devices," said Glenn Edelman, director of business development for Vindigo.

How it Works: Download and Go... Everywhere

Vindigo is available today for users of Palm and Palm-compatible handheld devices. By simply downloading the application from the Star Tribune and Vindigo Web sites ( www.startribune.com/news2go and www.vindigo.com), users have access to choices of places to go and things to do. Each time users sync their handheld devices, any new information is automatically downloaded. Vindigo’s differential synchronization technology, VSync, keeps sync time to a minimum, on average less than five seconds, by only downloading new and updated information. The application also uses proprietary data compression technology to minimize the application’s size and to speed searching.
